About Stephanie Garvin

Originally from Northern Ireland but currently working on permaculture and environmental conservation projects internationally. I have partnered with Pulau Bidan Permaculture in Malaysia to deliver a permaculture design course at their island demonstration project. I have also teamed with Operation Wallacea in Indonesia and have been managing their biological expedition forest camp in Buton island and have been doing some consultancy work in Australia periodically. In 2018 I will be introducing the Togean islands in Sulawesi, Indonesia to permaculture as part of a major island and marine conservation project in conjunction with the National Marine Park. Also planned for 2018 is a forest protection and reforestation project in Buton Island, Indonesia and designing food gardens for our remote jungle camp. In 2015 I teamed up with the Channel Islands Permaculture Institute to deliver Introduction to Permaculture courses in Jersey and Guernsey. I worked with a Portuguese organisation in Burkina Faso, West Africa to design and implement a food forest soil fertility project in 2014. I was previously living in Bali, where I worked on a agro-permaculture retreat centre, called Jiwa Damai, managing the gardens, organic certification and food production, supporting volunteers and interns with their learning and projects and holding permaculture workshops and courses. Prior to that I taught PDC courses and managed the community food gardens, worked in water conservation and reforestation of the tropical dry evergreen forest in Sadhana Forest in Tamil Nadu, South India.
My background is in community development but have I been involved in environmental conservation for a many years now and hope to continue working in this field in future.

My interest in permaculture began in Africa in 2007 and I completed a PDC in India in 2009. It was the most inspiring thing I had done in years. I was hooked!
