Forest garden planted at folxgarden and solar power harvested

Posted by harald wedig about 12 years ago

We planted our forest garden yesterday, short before it started to rain. Over the winter we harvested more solar power than we hoped for.

Good timing. After almost 4 weeks of an unusual spring drought, we planted our fruit trees and berry shrubs . In total about 16 trees: four apples, one pear, a peach, a nectarine, a plum, a khaki, a walnut, two cherrys, two hazel, an amelanchier, a grafted cornus, to call them by names. I dont want to bore you with the names of all the berries. Tomorrow they altogether will get a good layer of woodchip mulch.

The watering we left not alone to the rain, but gave our plants their share from the 6000 l underground rainwater tank, where our winterrain harvest is stored safely.

In this part of Germany annual rainfall is about 600 mm, thats what we call a dry region. The good news is, we have lots of sun;-)

We installed  6 KW/h peak photovoltaik on the southern roof by last august and harvested so far 4000 KW. If it continues like that, we will produce 7-8 times more eletricity than we need and feed the rest to the grid. Germany aims to stop producing nuklear power soon, so thats ( besides using less energy ourselves) is our tribute to the great national project.

In the house our sleeping room is ready meanwhile, now we can stay there over the weekend, while working there. Big step forward!

By the end of April a loam plaster workshop will take place in our house, also we will make a boarding and shelves from pallet planks plus cover the bathroom walls with a mosaik from broken tiles.
