Terrell House update

Terrell House Permaculture Living and Learning Center has become a reality! We are transforming this beautiful, passive solar, university-owned house into an inspiring space indoors and out for community, learning, food, music, and more. The house had been sitting unoccupied and is in need of repairs and improvements. Our “rent” is paying for this work as well as the beginnings of our educational programming fund. We are working closely with the following people to get things done:

• Misa Saros, UMaine’s Energy and Conservation Specialist/Sustainability Coordinator
• Owen Smith, Director of Intermedia MFA and IMRC Center
• Joline Blais, Associate Professor in New Media
• Julia and Charles Yelton, permaculture teachers and designers

Misa is our administration and facilities liaison, Owen and Joline are our academic liaisons, and Julia and Charles are our permaculture design mentors. A big “Thank you!” goes to Facilities Management for all the fine work they’re doing, to Emily Markides for cultivating support and awareness of permaculture at UMaine over the past eight years, and to Janet Waldron for welcoming and approving our proposal.

We moved in mid-August and have been getting settled and establishing the inner workings of our resident community. Now we are ready to start reconnecting with all of our supporters and future partners, build up our broader community, and plan for the spring!

Please join us for our first Permaculture Potluck on Monday, November 12th, starting at 6:00 pm. Julia and Charles will be here and would love to visit with their PDC grads, as well as anyone else interested in permaculture at UMaine.
