Planning for a great summer!

Project: Jardin Collectif de Saint-Jérôme - Collective Garden of Saint-Jerome

Posted by Wen Rolland about 13 years ago

I'm planning my summer at the collective garden so here are a couple of thoughts...

Spring will soon be here so I'm putting a lot of time on planning my year at the garden. Last year, I tried some home made low tunnels and they worked great! I extended the harvest season for my eggplants and did a late sowing of mixed lettuce. You can see the result in the first 2 pictures.

The next picture is from our Jean Pain experiment. We had hot water all summer long and even late in autumn until our water froze in the garden hose... We used wood residue chopped really small from the city of Saint-Jérôme. I'll try to do a video of the process.

This year, we'll continue the Jean Pain experience with a long hose inside the heap instead of a reservoir. The reservoir was great because we could have water for 30 minutes straight but then it took 2 days to heat up again... With the hose, we'll have 5 to 10 minutes of hot water and it'll recharge in around 15 to 30 minutes.

We had a great harvest of garlic and I replanted a lot of them this autumn to have even more this year. They are a very important part of the garden. They are medicinal for the plants and the humans, great for cooking and beautiful in flower!

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
