PDC 2014 - starting 22nd Feb

Project: T.T.Permatuin

Posted by Fiona Morris about 10 years ago

The designer and project manager of TTPermatuin has received several requests to run a full Permaculture Design Course, so this year she will! See www.atelierrabbit.com for course details.

This year Fiona is tutoring a 'Dutch-style' PDC (72 hours, 9 course days, one a month). There are lectures, design sessions, fieldwork at TTPermatuin, site visits (e.g. Food Forest Ketelbroek), and guest speakers on many topics. There will be a focus on showing examples of innovative sustainability solutions and community approaches. In addition to the course days participants design an individual project supported by online materials, resources, and digital networking with course tutors and fellow students. Find more info at: www.atelierrabbit.com and feel welcome to contact us at [email protected]

Fiona is a landscape architect who has specialised in ecological design, bottom-up approaches, and urban agriculture. Her permaculture work ranges from designing and managing the demonstration and experimental project Transition Towns Vallei TTPermatuin to lecturing for Wageningen University and helping the Farming Systems Ecology group to develop their first academic Permaculture course (starting September 2014). Fiona has researched Permaculture as a design methodology in her MSc. thesis, applying her findings by participating in the European Permaculture Partnership, and coordinating community design projects.

The course is supported by the advice of a biologist who shows you how to set-up your own experiments, or record and monitor the systems you design – get feedback to improve your work, and help inform others why what you do works! A range of other highly qualified and experienced guest lecturers will come by to share their knowledge during fun, varied, learning-intensive course days.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
