After (and during) digging our first swale we planted it with a small variety of baby trees. Some seem to be taking hold quite nice, but for example half of the oranges planted have been robbed of all their leaves (leafcutter ants??). For ground cover we did not yet have many options, so we used some clover and seeded a number of pumpkins and melons. The first results show below.
