Strawberry tree.

Posted by Henk van der Weijst about 13 years ago

Like all schools, the permaculture schoola are conservative. I want to bring many realy new things, not to learn, but to think about it, or you would like it or not. For example: strawberry trees.

Strawberry tree.

Strawberrys grow in soil on ground level. We are used to it. Effective with enough soil and space, but ineffective in little gardens. Cities are a permanent part of nature. You can like ore dislike it, it's a fact. And Darwin said: "be fitted", and you will have the biggest chance to survive in the jungle of living things. And normaly there is little space to spare in town.

Trees showed for hundreds of millions of years, that going 3-D, is very economical. Place to spare, many plants invited themselves in this 3-D frame work. For example bromelias, orchids and misteltoes. (see pictures below).

Permaculturists can try out which trees accept strawberry plants as a guest in his/her 3-D space. Not birds or other animals plant them (by accident), but mankind (on purpose).

If it can be done with strawberrys, which diner plants will follow? On the same tree, or on an other type, in Holland, or other places where trees grow.

Bromelias 1 Orchidee 1 Mistletoe 2 Mistletoe 1
