Any permaculture tips for punks?

So, what do you do with a bunch of wild kids with too much time on their hands? This is the second time in two totally different countries that we've had this problem.

Firstly, in the States teenagers crossed the property where our friends and we were raising broilers and destroyed the fences and chicken houses and tortured (literally) the chickens. They broke their legs and left them to die.

Our problem here is not so gut-wrenching yet, but it is eating at our pocketbook. We paid to have the community well cleaned, so our neighbors could use it to water their gardens and build their cement blocks. Then, the very kids who had been helping us clean up the property were bored one day and decided to fill it full of trash!

Any permaculture tidbits that apply to a bunch of wild hooligans? We don't have too many teens, we have a dedicated parent deficiency. So what do we do about it?

Robin Greenwood : I could start describing how it is theoretically possibly to re-foculise the wide community around you, not just in terms of permaculture. This can be done on an elemental energy/magic level, as per the UK Luton based Exodus collective achieved...and also in regular materialistic terms, such as starting a community group. You need to break though to the youthman...as said, essentially to create a nu reality. Like making a 'guidance circle', in the mainstream reality around you. That is obviously problematic, because you will be up against other peoples 'manor'. The mace, in the western type paradigm...but doing stuff like positivly changing community reality in a material way is not rocket science, and many have done this in community projects etc.

Robin Greenwood : ..the traditional indigenous medicene (non organised christianity) people might help where you are?..Haiti is probably very christianised and so that aspect might not be possible.

Robin Greenwood : ..obviously thats what needs to happen ideally. Otherwise it can become a police state type CCTV etc lockdown security situation to prevent crime in the community (type thing)...and thats probably not an option anyway where you are there. Or again, a serere beating for the miscreants, again not really a road you want to go down.

Positivly change community wide reality - the crux issue for many many environmental and social problems, and easier said than done.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
