Freedom House, Casa de la Libertad

Project Type

Rural, Residential, Commercial, Community, Demonstration, Educational, Permaculture Local Group Transition Town Permablitz

Project Summary

My new home and project will showcase a self sustaining project, research, demonstration and educational center to show and teach people what is possible on about 1/2 acre of land

Project Description

Freedom House is my new semi secluded home 5 minutes from beautiful downtown Jarabacoa 1700 feet in elevation with 1000 feet of riverfront property. The area is covered in mountains, valleys and majestic, supernatural views.I have about a 1/2 acre of land with several centuries old canopy trees, several varieties of bananas, coffee, tropical flowers, oranges, limes.

This will be expanded upon with a wide variety of indigenous and imported varieties, worm farm, behives, ducks, gesse, chickens and appropriate agro-ecology permaculture methodologies.

This is one of several projects I am working on with local business people and community members that will address food security, soverneighty, community health and building self sustaining communites.

We are presently working on developing several research projects at different elevations in the area going all the way up to the highest peak in the Caribbean, Pico Duarte.

The objective is to research and develop varieties of fruits, vegetables, nut (macadamia and others) herbs, spices, flowers and medicinal plants for local and export markets.

I will be accepting woofers and vistors as my new home has 4 bedrooms, 3 baths. And I will be building a couple Taino Bohios (thatched huts) right on the river and central to the garden, raised beds, ourdoor cooking area, including a Pompeei Oven and IMU a Hawaiian Style Earth Oven, outdoor Cabana etc.

Visitors, guests will be encouraged and welcomed. Especially those with permaculture experience interested in adding their creativity to the project!

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
