Project Summary

24 acre permaculture design and implementation, in addition to this is are educational classes taught by me through Dancing Tree Permaculture to our community/volunteer program (wwoof).

Project Description

The farm is still in early stages, the design was overseen by Geoff Lawton in my competition of his online courses. The farm is in it's stages of completing all living structures which include a kitchen and bathhouse for the volunteer community area, as well as a tiny house and 3 camping platforms. This whole area is off grid gas and solar, and will continue to evolve these systems into more sustainable practices such as composting toilets and grey water systems (currently it's on septic). There is a main house which is where I (the care taker) live located in Zone 1, the owners who do not live here full time have a house in Zone 2, then there are two rental houses in zone 4 which play a big role in the economic sustainability of the farm. We will eventually also run a small farmers market in which we will sell Honey, Eggs, Vegetables, Herbs, Fruits, Fish and Grass fed beef. There are various food forest areas being developed through proper soil preparation systems taught by Geoff Lawton (and Mollison of course), and about 100 fruit trees have all ready been planted and are happily growing. The animal systems have been refined since I've been here, we have Cattle (Scottish Highlander), Chickens, Ducks, Geese, Goats, Fish, Horse, and house pets such as dogs and cats. When I arrived on this farm it was very young and had many broken systems, it is an ongoing process to catch everything up and create a full sustainable recycling system. The goal for my client is to have a full functional sustainable farm that has a community environment and education center, also to achieve a setting that can provide enough business to sustain the farm and turn anything extra into profit.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
