About Myra Graham

I am a Canadian/British dual citizen, being born and raised in Canada but moved to Scotland in 1992 and have lived there for the past 20+ years. Over the past 3 years I have been living between both countries, setting up my next adventure in Whistler, BC.

I have been an avid gardener since I can remember. I was also a social activist in my teens and early 20s but then for reasons beyond the scope of this summary, I 'turned off' until 2008 when I watched the film 'Zeitgeist Addendum'. I then realised there actually WERE people in the world who felt the way I did and reached out to find them in the flesh. My quest lead me to two groups; The Zeitgeist Movement and Transition Towns. Through both, I discovered Permaculture.

In 2010, I took an introduction to Permaculture course and the following year did the 14 day residential Design course. Since then, I've been in transition so have not been able to practice it as much as I would have liked - however, this is about to change. At the end of 2012, my husband and I bought a condo in Whistler and at the 2013 agm, there arose an opportunity to suggest permaculture instead of traditional landscaping for the complex. I became a councillor on the Strata, and have been tasked with making a presentation at the next council meeting in November. Thus, I am actively looking for fellow permaculturists who would like to join me with this project. Who knows - if this Strata takes on transforming their property to a more permaculture model, others may follow suit and in time perhaps Whistler itself will adapt these strategies? There is hope.

I also am promoting a complimentary currency through the Whistler branch of the Community Exchange System. We have screened the documentary 'The Money Fix' in May and will be screening more documentaries after November when I return to Whistler on a permanent basis.
