About Philip Jones

I have an academic background in marine biology, and marine and coastal conservation. However, it strikes me as blindingly obvious that most problems facing the oceans today start in terrestrial systems, and are the results of human activity. Therefore, I started learning about, and working in, terrestrial systems too.

At present my main area of work is developing projects to increase resource use efficiency in food production, particularly in water or space deprived areas. I am heavily involved in the development of aquaponic systems (recirculating aquaculture and hydroponics), and also non-recirculting methodologies for integrating fish production with crop production.

Until now I have been working mainly in the middle east, as a consultant to private sector, local and international NGOs. Over the coming year I hope to expand my reach and experience to include projects in SE Asia, and the U.K.
