I've been working and making living off of permaculture since 2011. I started as a ground manager applying permaculture principles in Ft Lauderdale FL in a suburban setting, shortly after that I was hired on a farm (Natural Chai Farm) in Davie FL where I lived and helped develop the farm through permaculture principles for 6 months. At this time my previous employers needed someone to develop permaculture 3 acre farm also in Davie, so I took on that project and remained there until March 2014. From 2014 till October of 2017 I developed and worked on a property in Leicester NC, right near the city of Asheville. Here we managed a 3,600ft greenhouse which we kept running year round with subtropical and 1,600 gallons of aquaponic systems. We also planted about 300 fruit trees in less than three years, and managed a herd of Scottish highlanders, as well as an outdoor pond system, small herd of goats/sheep, chickens, and a few horses. We built an off grid area and ran a WWOOF volunteer program that was very successful, in addition I held a few PDC's when I had spare time. The farm's main income where 2 family rentals that I managed and improved their margin by 60% but the time I left. Unfortunately one year after I left that far they shut down and sold it. I was hired in October 2017 at Milofran estates in Asheville, a 15 acre oasis 10 min from downtown. This property is no longer a running farm but a historic estate. We do not have animals, and the fruit tree and perennial systems are limited. I am applying all my knowledge acquired to the landscape and the forest. It has been an interesting transition, one that has also allowed me to go back to school at NC state for soil science.
